Dr Webb was a force in my MGS years 1993-1999. Aside from the panto sketches and untucked bonhomie, his 987 club drew a group of us nerdy eleven year olds to his classroom to hear talk of philosophy, abstract puzzles, unsolved theorems and be provided a 100-strong reading list of Dickens, Chaucer, and many more while we listened to the classics he enjoyed. On brief check of the participants i’m still in touch with, none of us have yet completed the booklist, a lifelong mission to be more Webb.
A great man, and i’m glad to have spoken with him on a walk a few years ago and found him little changed and still loving travel and wine.
