I was never taught by him but heard enthusiastic reports from people who were. I do recall being in a production of ‘A Man For All Seasons’ and going to see Dr Webb a number of times to ask about the life of Cromwell, the character I was playing. He chatted affably and suggested books I should read. All of that would have been, officially, ‘off the clock’, not really his duties. That didn’t seem remotely to be an issue; he simply responded to a pupil’s interest. That’s a fine teacher – and a decent human being. Thank you, Dr Webb.
